Introduction

I've walked a lot of caminos. I have just finished walking the Camino Portugue Coastal to Santiago and unexpectedly lost an engineering job which was making me very ill, so I will be walking again very soon on the Via De La Plata (VDLP) from Seville to Santiago. I usually take my best friend piglet with me on my camino walks and she looks after my stuff in the refuge and hence the title of this blog.

I had a long hiatus from walking the camino for about 10 years and the last time I attempted to walk the Via De La Plata was in 2008, it was not a success. I was trying to diet to get my weight down for an operation and didn't have the energy or stamina for the walk, so gave up after reaching El Real De La Jara about 4 days in. Actually I gave up in Almaden as I took a bus from there to El Real.

I have actually walked the VDLP as far as a place called Granja De Moruela with is not that far from Astorga on the Camino Frances. That was back in 2004 during my long sabbatical. I had walked it previously in early 2003 with my then partner as far as Gallisteo.

I am an engineer and trainer nearing retirement (4 years to go) so information is important to me. I actually have a website (TheViaDeLaPlata.com) with some information on the route plus photos. It's rather incomplete however, so one idea is to fill in the missing parts during this walk.
